Ticker
Definition
A ticker is a short name for the instruments (stocks, bonds, indices) on the stock exchange.
Example
Sometimes the ticker is consonant with the name of the company, for example, the Amazon ticker is AMZN, Microsoft is MSFT, Sberbank is SBER, Gazprom is GAZP. However, this is not always the case. There are also single-letter tickers: A - Agilent Technologies, C - City Group, Z - Zillow.
Index tickers: IMOEX - Moscow Exchange index, NDX - NASDAQ 100 index, SPX - S&P500 index, etc.
More detailed
Ticker is a combination of several Latin characters. This combination is unique on a particular exchange and is assigned to a specific share or other exchange instrument.
